Biography
Nicola has co-developed the BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Huddersfield. Nicola is currently a Lecturer, Year 2 Lead and Admissions Tutor for the programme.
After obtaining a BSc Clinical Language Sciences: Speech and Language Therapy degree from Leeds Metropolitan University, Nicola worked in the Yorkshire, Staffordshire and East Midlands as a Speech and Language Therapist. Nicola has held Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists memberships since 2010. Nicola worked both in the NHS and privately as a Speech and Language Therapist. Nicola’s clinical area of specialism is Autism and Paediatric Learning Disabilities.
In 2020, Nicola undertook her MA in Education Practice at De Montfort University and graduated in January 2021. This MA included undertaking two qualitative empirical studies. The first study explored the student challenges and enablers of digital tools used in higher education. The second, studied lecturer experiences of teaching reflective practice to allied health and nursing professionals. Nicola additionally opted for a negotiated study module and went on to publish an article in Gateway papers.
Nicola is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Nicola has recently applied for Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Nicola is undertaking a PhD, exploring the assessment of camouflaging in autism in young people.
