Biography

Before, November 2018 my work focused on Climate change adaptation and Disaster risk reduction in a major EU project called ESPREssO (Enhancing Synergies for Disaster Prevention in the Europian Union). This project aimed at contributing to a new strategic vision to approach natural risk reduction and climate change adaptation, thereby opening new frontiers for research and policy making.

I completed my PhD at the Univerity of Huddersfield. My research focused on developing a community embedded sustainable urban design process. I actively worked with two local authorities in UK with their live urban design projects as the cases studies of my PhD.

During my PhD I worked as a research assistant at the Global Disaster Resilience centre,University of Huddersfield also at the Centre for disaster resilience, University of Salford. During this period, I have engaged in three EU-funded projects and have gained significance experience on Disaster Risk Reduction.

In addition, I have worked as a voluntary teaching assistant at the School of the Built Environment, University of Salford, UK. I have undertaken lectures related to urban regeneration and urban design.

Before my postgraduate education, I worked at the project consultancy unit, Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa Sri Lanka, as a project/research coordinator and engaged in three urban planning related projects which were funded by UNHABITAT, UNDP and ASIA Foundation.

I gained my undergraduate degree in Town & Country Planning obtained from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka and the Masters Degree in Urban Design obtained from University of Salford, UK.

Also, I am Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
