Dr Nuwan Dias is a Research Fellow in Disaster Resilience at the Global Disaster Resilience Centre, located in the Department of Biological and Geographic Sciences, School of Applied Sciences. Nuwan joined the University of Huddersfield as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in 2016 on a Horizon 2020 project in Climate change adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction. After that, in April 2019, he started to work as a Research Fellow in Disaster Resilience and has been a key member of developing the REF impact case studies under the UOA13 (Architecture, Built Environment and Planning) for the University of Huddersfield. After that, he engaged in several projects related to Tsunami Early Warning.

Currently, Nuwan works on a key plank project of the university research strategy aiming to grow the scope and impact of the university activities. He is working as the key researcher to examine the feasibility of establishing a Research Institution on Resilient Societies (RS). These will embrace the University's Strategic Framework and core goals [2020 – 2025]. They are directly aligned to maximise research strengths, consolidate, strengthen, and focus on the University's core research activity.

In addition, Nuwan is involved in teaching and assessment for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. He is also a fellow member of the Higher Education Academy since 2018. 

Nuwan completed his PhD in 2016 (Urban Design) at the University of Huddersfield, Masters in 2012 (Urban Design) at the University of Salford and BSc(Hons) in Town & Country Planning at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.

Nuwan's research interests are built environment at disaster resilience, climate change adaption and built environment, Tsunami early warning, sustainable urban planning and design. He has produced a range of research outputs covering his research interest areas.
