Biography
I am a practical microbiologist with over 25 years experience working at the interface between research and industry. I have two independent research themes: firstly Environmental Microbiology and secondly Disinfection and Infection Control.
In the case of Environmental Microbiology I have a longstanding profile as a national and international expert in gas generation, anaerobic microbiology and the microbiology of radioactive waste disposal facilities. Much of my current research is focused on the anaerobic microbiology of extreme environments particularly hyper alkaline industrial sites employing both moelcular analysis of the associated populations and the isolation of the novel microbes present.
In the case of disinfection and infection control I manage the industry focussed Hygiene and Disinfection laboratory which has assisted a wide range of companies to take their infection control technologies from the lab bench to the marketplace. The laboratory performs a wide range of both bespoke and standard test within a QA regime consistent with EN17025.
