Biography
Professor Qihai Huang joined Huddersfield Business School in February 2021 as Professor of Entrepreneurship and Management and HoD, Department of Management. He is currently the Strategic Lead for Research, School of Business, Education and Law.
Before joining Huddersfield, Qihai worked at Keele University as Professor of Entrepreneurship and Management and Director of Research & REF2021 UoA17 Lead, Keele Business School, where he was Head of the Marketing, Management and Organisation Group, overseeing the merger of three subject groups and its transformation. Before this, he was employed by Lancaster University Management School, Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, and Royal Holloway, University of London. He has been Director of Lancaster China Management Centre, Director of Lancaster University Confucius Institute, and Head of Department, Institute for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (merger and creation of the new department, now Department of Entrepreneurship and Strategy), Lancaster University.
Qihai has successfully worked on prestigious initiatives funded by the EU, ESRC, Global Challenges Research Fund, AIM, and others. His work has been published by leading journals such as Human Resource Management Journal, British Journal of Industrial Relations, Journal of Business Research, Technovation, Entrepreneurship & Regional Development among others. He has also effectively engaged with hundreds of SMEs on leadership, social network, exporting, and student projects. Qihai has secured as principal investigator, co-investigator, or as part of a wider institutional team, over £6.5 million in grants for research and enterprise projects. These have been supported by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), ACCA, and China National Natural Science Foundation to name but a few. These have delivered significant impacts on student experience and helped organisations and also communities - creating jobs and Gross Value Added.
Qihai received his first degree in Sociology from Peking University (distinction), MSc (financed by a Chevening Fellowship), and PhD (funded by a University of Bristol Scholarship) from the University of Bristol. He was a middle manager in the Chinese central government before pursuing an academic career
