Rainy’s primary interests lie in the field of Corporate Finance & Investments; Corporate Governance & Board Busyness; Investment Appraisals; Financial Markets; Financial Risk Management; Asset Pricing Models. Particularly, Rainy is concerned with the study of corporate governance quality, from both an empirical and practical perspective, over a broad range of financial decisions, financial strength and financial flexibility of worldwide (US/UK and global) banking institutions. He aims to provide a deeper understanding of why banks make the financial decisions they do; for example, why do they pay dividends? How do they employ dividend strategies to reduce potential agency conflicts of interests? How do dividend strategies link to other financial indicators and corporate governance quality?

Furthermore, much of recent work of Rainy has been on board busyness and quality of corporate governance mechanism worldwide, particularly in contexts of ethical finance and religious norms. He has an expertise in developing experimental models, new digital software, and utilising comprehensive datasets in order to examine contemporary issues or debates affecting subject areas like gender, governance and compensation within financial and non-financial institutions, with the aim of presenting informative and conclusive global evidence.

Rainy is always interested in discussing research proposals with any prospective PhD students.
