Biography

Dr Rodrigo Lagos is a Senior Research Fellow of Railway Technology at the Institute of Railway Research, at the University of Huddersfield, UK, with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Navarra, Spain.

His career was spent in the mining industry in Chile, designing steel structures and then, as a Chief production manager, designing mining equipment , organizing and supervising the company's production area. During this period, he kept his position as a visiting lecturer at the University of Santiago (Chile) while he worked and gained experience working with major clients such as Vulco Minerals, Codelco, CAP, SQM, Bechtel, Sandvik and others.

Been awarded by the University of Navarra to undertake a PhD research programme on railways and rolling stock, he worked with Metro Bilbao and JEZ (VAE Group) improving the dynamic behaviour for the S&C installed on Metro Bilbao. Following the completion of his PhD in 2012 (Cum Laude) Dr Lagos was appointed as an Associate Professor at the ‘Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso’ (Chile), where in addition to the academic duties he led several industrial and academic projects.

Later he was appointed by Altran (Spain) to work on the development of the dynamic design for vehicles manufactured by CAF.

In his current role, Dr Lagos worked on several industry-sponsored research and enterprise projects for various clients, such as the Rail Safety and Standards Board and Network Rail.
