Biography

Dr Rukaiyat Adebusola Yusuf is an ONS-accredited researcher and a Lecturer in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics at the University of Huddersfield. She began her academic career in 2014 at Kaduna State University, later joining the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, before taking up her current post at the University of Huddersfield in January 2022. She is also an Editorial Board Member of the Review of Behavioural Finance.

She graduated with a First Class degree in Accounting from Kaduna State University, Nigeria, before completing an MSc in Accounting and Finance (Distinction) at Kingston University, London, in 2016. She earned her PhD in Business and Management (Finance) from Queen Mary University of London in 2021, supported by the prestigious HSS Principal’s Doctoral Research Studentship (2017–2021).

Her research explores how financial decision-making, governance structures, and evidence systems shape organisational behaviour, community outcomes, and inclusive economic development. Her work spans corporate governance, behavioural finance, climate finance governance, and labour market inclusion, with a strong methodological focus on evaluation and evidence-based policy design.

She is also interested in exploring research on disability, work, inclusive labour markets, and financial fragmentation, contributing to national conversations on economic resilience and equitable access to opportunity. Across these domains, her research is united by a commitment to rigorous evaluation, practical evidence tools, and interdisciplinary approaches that support decision makers in the public, private, and third sectors.

Rukaiyat currently serves as a Research Consultant on the Energy Neighbours project, a three‑year National Lottery Climate Action Fund programme led by Third Sector Leaders (TSL) Kirklees in partnership with the Kirklees Climate Commission. As part of the SURGE Research Centre Steering Group, she leads the development of indicators, targets, and measurement frameworks that enable communities across Kirklees to evidence meaningful progress in energy saving, carbon reduction, and improved indoor comfort.
