Biography
Sara is the Acting Head of the Department of Allied Health Professions, Sport and Exercise within the School of Human and Health Sciences at the University of Huddersfield. She joined the University in 2006, and held other senior roles including Head of Division and School Director of Academic Quality and Professional Governance before becoming Acting Head of Department in 2021.
Sara is a physiotherapist and experienced senior academic with over 27 years’ experience in Higher Education. She has a profile of excellent academic leadership, curriculum development and teaching and learning expertise which is extensive and includes local, national and international work. She is a Chartered Manager and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Between 2015 and 2023, Sara also served as a Fitness to Practise Partner with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Sara is currently serving as the University’s Appointed Governor at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust and as a co‑opted Governor at two local schools in Huddersfield. In 2024, Sara was nominated by University Senate to join the University Council, where she also serves on the Governance & Nominations Committee and the Honorary Awards Committee.
Passionate about teaching, learning and assessment, Sara is the Module Leader for a Master’s level module, Assessment in Health Professional Education. This interprofessional module recruits 40-50 post-graduate students per year from clinical practice, higher education or policy/commissioning workforces, and without doubt, is one of her annual “highlights”.
Sara’s academic interests include qualitative research methods and, in particular, phenomenology, healthcare education and workforce development, and communities of practice theory.
