Dr. Biscaya has twenty-two years of experience as an Architect and Urban Designer (Chartered Architect ARB and RIBA) specialised in production and coordination of information and spatial data visualisation. Her research focuses on Data applications in developing Smart Urban Futures that integrate the urban and rural socio-economic and physical infrastructures to support communities, stakeholders and decision makers. Current projects include ESCR, Technology Enhanced Stakeholder Collaboration for Supporting Risk-Sensitive Sustainable Urban Development TRANSCEND, (GCRF, £970K), AHRC Design Accelerators: Design the Green Transition 2023, The value of design for sustainable housing – towards a smart place demonstrator £50K and URF 2023, Leading the way in Smart Home Research and Innovation programme £300K.
Sara was a member of the Smart Urban Futures (SURF) UoS research group from 2018-22. The research group works on The Future of Cities and provides models for urban futures in areas. She is also a collaborator with the THINKLAb at UoS, ARB (Architects Registration Board) UK Adaptation Assessor, International RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Validation board member, Athena Swan Chartered Reviewer and member of WiA-Women in Architecture.
Sara is currently the Subject Leader for Architecture and the Built Environment at the University of Huddersfield, UK, previously she was the Head of Architecture and Design at the University of Salford, UK. Since 2020 she has been involved in enhancing inclusiveness and equality in the workplace as Chair of the Women’s Voice Network and the Athena Swan assessment panels. In addition, she is a Guest Professor at ISCTE IUL - University of Lisbon, Portugal, Department of Architecture and Urbanism, M.Arch on Smart Ecological Urban Green and Blue Corridors.
