Simon Fletcher is a Principal Enterprise Fellow working within the Engineering Control and Machine Performance group (ECMPG), part of the Centre for Precision Technologies.  With more than 16years’ experience in machine tool accuracy improvement including error identification, avoidance and compensation, he has helped establish the groups international reputation for research into machine tool precision.

Simon is currently working on consultancy activities primarily involving detailed geometric and thermal performance assessments for precision manufacturers, machine tool simulation work as part of an InnovateUK project and as co-investigator for the University EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Advanced Metrology.

Born in Northallerton, North Yorkshire he began studying engineering in 1989 at York college of Arts and Technology. Completing a BTEC National Diploma in Computer Aided Engineering in 1991 he then began a four year degree in the same field at the University of Huddersfield. Receiving an Honors degree in 1995 he was then offered the opportunity to do a PhD by Professor Derek Ford. His PhD ran in conjunction with the ‘RECOVER‘ project which was jointly funded by the EPSRC and industrial collaboration. He defended his thesis titled 'Computer Aided System for Intelligent Implementation of Machine Tool Error Reduction Methodologies' in 2001. Since then, Simon has continued post doctoral research in this field of engineering and now works as a Principal Enterprise Fellow in the Centre for Precision Technologies.
