Sohaib graduated with a BSEd (BSc + BEd) degree from the Federal College of Education, Islamabad, Pakistan and became a certified teacher. After teaching for ten years (in Pakistan and in Republic of Maldives), Sohaib joined the University of Huddersfield for his master’s degree - MSc in Analytical Chemistry. After completing his master’s degree in 2010, Sohaib was offered a Vice Chancellor’s fee waiver scholarship to do a PhD in Carbohydrate Chemistry. Sohaib completed his PhD in 2015, under the guidance of Prof. Andrew P. Laws. His PhD thesis titled was, “Characterization of Bacterial Exopolysaccharides”. During his PhD, he presented his findings at many national and international conferences and published his findings in highly reputable journals.
From 2016, Dr. Sohaib has been working as a postdoctoral research assistant in the Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences, School of Applied Sciences, University of Huddersfield. He is in-charge of Prof. Andrew P. Laws Carbohydrate Research Laboratory. His research is mainly focused on the isolation and characterization of polysaccharides produced by probiotic bacteria including Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) and Bifidobacteria. By using state of the art analytical techniques (HPAEC-PAD, GC-MS, NMR), Dr. Sohaib is trying to develop new methods for isolating polysaccharides and characterizing the structures of exo- and capsular polysaccharides.
