Biography

I am an artistic researcher who is primarily interested in the confluences between art, design, philosophy and technology. My most recent projects explore the unhomely affinities between the philosophies of Gilles Deleuze and Jacques Derrida, and the veneration of metamorphic subjectivity that occurs in the context of practices of animation.

I have a PhD in Fine Art from the University of Hertfordshire where supervisorial input was shared between the Department of Art and Design and the Department of Philosophy. I also have a BA in Philosophy from the University of Hull, and an MSc in Interactive Multimedia Production from the University of Huddersfield.

I currently lead Animation Production BA (Hons) and its corresponding Masters pathway, whilst also supervising a number of postgraduate students. Through my teaching and research, I explore the significance of Deleuzian, Bergsonian and Derridean thought with respect to the onto-political and onto-experiential character of art, design, and animation.

My PhD thesis developed a Deleuzian, process-philosophical perspective on artistic research, whilst contesting the design-led critique of the non-traditional thesis. My artistic practice focuses on code and electronics as material forms of expression, exploring spatio-temporal relations through digital, text-based experimentation, and troubling distinctions between theory, practice and processes of research.
