Biography

I have been a mental health nurse for two decades now, working mainly in the field of acute psychiatry in the early part of my career, found myself then in the peripatetic role of rehabilitation of the traumatically brain injured before returning to the acute adult context. I became a full time lecturer at the University of Sheffield in 1999 after spending a year there on secondment. I enjoyed my time in South Yorkshire building up strong links with service partners especially in the developing role of nurses as prescribers and have continued this when I transferred to The University of Huddersfield in 2006. I have been fortunate to actively have the experience of liaising nationally and internationally whether in scholarship, research or consultation roles and see this as an important part of the lecturing role in mental health.

I contribute to the prescribing courses at the University and I also work as a honorary memory nurse with SWYPFT that enables me to prescribe medication as part of my role (I am a qualified V300 Prescriber).
