Biography

Steven Fenton graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Electronic and Information Engineering from the University of Huddersfield, where he was awarded the IEEE prize for best Electronic Engineering graduate.

He has extensive industry experience at senior design level, contributing to the development of advanced technologies across both professional and consumer markets. His work has included project management, video and audio compression systems, in-car audio, broadcast mixing consoles, DSP, analogue audio design, and low-power embedded systems.

Alongside his engineering career, Steven founded and led a commercial recording studio, with responsibility for business strategy, client acquisition, and operational management.

He completed his PhD at the University of Huddersfield, with research spanning low-power systems and sensing, health innovation, remote health and wound monitoring, signal processing and edge-AI systems. He is an active member of the Audio Engineering Society, and the Institute of Engineering Technology and regularly presents at international conferences. He is also affiliated with the University’s Centre for Audio and Psychoacoustic Engineering and the Centre of Communications, Centre for Communications, Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Steven is currently a Subject Area Leader in the Department of Engineering and Technology at the University of Huddersfield and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is also a Chartered Manager (CMgr), recognising his professional leadership and management capability.
