Biography
Tharaka is a full-time Lecturer in the Department of Built Environment at the University of Huddersfield and a final year Doctoral Researcher at the Birmingham City University.
Tharaka's academic journey began with a strong foundation in Quantity Surveying, followed by a Master’s in Construction Project Management. Now, as a PhD researcher, her work is rooted in the Circular Economy research domain, focusing on developing a tool to assess the circularity potential at production processes for building materials.
Previously, Tharaka contributed as a Research Assistant at Birmingham City University, working on the ECHO project, which assessed embodied carbon emissions in alternative housing frames. This experience not only broadened Tharaks's expertise but also reinforced her passion for sustainability and circularity in the built environment.
Through Tharaka's research and teaching, she aims to foster innovation and environmental consciousness in the construction industry. Also, her research skills directly enhance teaching, allowing to share practical insights and inspire students to embrace sustainable practices in their future careers.
