Biography

Dr Thomas James Vaughan Williams is a Research Fellow in Psychology at the University of Huddersfield. He holds a BSc in Psychology (First Class, 2020), an MSc in Investigative Psychology (Distinction, 2021) and a PhD (2024) where his thesis explored online radicalisation and harmful digital narratives. He is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Dr Williams teaches and supervises across undergraduate, MSc, and PhD programmes, and actively reviews for leading international journals. His research focuses on radicalisation and the pre-event indicators of mass violence, while also exploring broader questions of how digital environments shape communication, behaviour and vulnerability. His work is designed to inform policy and safeguarding practice.

He extensively publishes in peer-reviewed journals, has presented at international conferences and his work has been cited in policy reports. His work has also been featured in global media outlets and shared with law enforcement and safeguarding agencies, particularly in relation to identifying pre-event indicators of mass violence and preventing online radicalisation.
