Personal profile

Walter’s background is in business creation and development. He is a business adviser with extensive experience of offering business advisory and technical support to Social Enterprises and Small to Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) in both public and private sectors. This also includes working extensively both overseas and in the UK, delivering a variety of externally funded projects and development interventions. These are mainly focused at assisting individuals within deprived communities to take charge of their lives through enterprise

Walter is currently a Senior Lecturer in Business Strategy with interests in Social Entrepreneurship and Business Strategy. He is also involved in initiatives within the University of Huddersfield Business School that seek to promote and widen the knowledge base on Third Sector activities

Over the past twelve (12) years, Walter has developed a keen interest in community regeneration and the social economy, where he has gained considerable experience and knowledge in supporting the development of social enterprises.

It’s not surprising that his research interests therefore include Small business development and Social entrepreneurship. Walter’s PhD course specifically focussed on social enterprise legal structures and how these impact on their operations as well as their ability to extract and deliver value. This is analysed within the context of the UK’s policy framework on the sector and the pressing need for social enterprises to be financially sustainable in an increasingly competitive environment.

Prior to taking the lecturing post at the University of Huddersfield, Walter was leading a Local Economic Growth Initiative (LEGI) social enterprise project in East London.

Fingerprint Fingerprint is based on mining the text of the person's scientific documents to create an index of weighted terms, which defines the key subjects of each individual researcher.
