Yvonne worked as a secondary school teacher before receiving funding from The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to study for an MA in Women's Studies at the University of Bradford. She has also been a senior enforcement officer in the financial services industry and was director of a company spcialising in coaching for managers. She began her research career after gaining an MA in Educational Research Methods, funded by the University of Sheffield and a PhD, again funded by the ESRC. She has been a researcher at the University of Huddersfield since 2011.
