Biography

Zulfiqar Shah is Professor of Accounting and Finance, and Director of the Northern Productivity Hub (NPH) Research Centre at Huddersfield Business School, University of Huddersfield. Zulfiqar Shah holds a PhD from Alliance Manchester Business School, an MA in Post-Compulsory Higher Education from University of Warwick, an MBA (distinction, gold medal), and BBA (distinction, gold medal) from University of Peshawar. He is a qualified Chartered Manager, Member Chartered Management Institute (CMgr MCMI). In addition to commercial banking experience in the private sector, he had previously held positions, as an Associate Professor at Warwick Business School, University of Warwick (2003 – 2021), and as Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the University of Exeter (2000 – 2003). He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK and a member of the British Accounting and Finance Association, the European Accounting Association, and Academy of Sustainable Finance, Accounting, Accountability & Governance. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Sustainable Finance and Accounting (Elsevier) and serves as reviewer for a number of main-stream academic journals. He had served as panel chair, discussant, and keynote speaker at various national and international conferences and published in quality  academic journals such as, British Journal of Management, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, International Review of Financial Analysis, International Journal of Accounting and Journal of Business Research, among others. His main research interests are in the area of capital markets research. He is interested in the value relevance of advertising, R&D, and other intangible assets and exploring the relationships among compensation, corporate governance, and firm performance; firms’ risk-taking; role of diversity and emerging technologies in firms’ innovation, productivity and net-zero targets; forensic accounting and accounting fraud. He also has a complementary research interest in curriculum designing and assessment in higher education and performance measurement and management in not for profit institutions in both advanced and developing countries.
