Description
To meet the UK’s Net Zero commitments, traditional approaches have largely relied on costly and disruptive infrastructure upgrades. This project proposes the development and validation of an intelligent, AI-driven battery and energy management solution that leverages safer, lithium-free sodium-ion batteries alongside second-life EV batteries. By enabling smart energy coordination and circular reuse, the solution aims to significantly reduce the need for large-scale infrastructure expansion. Drawing on the University of Huddersfield’s advanced research facilities, the project will design and evaluate a microgrid model tailored to UK conditions, with performance tested in a real-world laboratory microgrid environment.
