Signing witness: community-produced British Sign Language translations of Holocaust survivor testimonies at Holocaust Centre North

The project will engage with the d/Deaf community in West Yorkshire and beyond to collaboratively translate Holocaust survivors’ stories into British Sign Language (BSL). It will make the permanent exhibition at Holocaust Centre North more accessible and the visitor experience more inclusive, rendering high-quality Holocaust education more accessible for d/Deaf adults and children. The project will form the basis for newly-developed practices for BSL translation in the important and challenging area of Holocaust memorialisation and education.
