Abstract

One of the most important current issue(s) of architecture in the early stage of the 21st century is perhaps the virtuality. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies through the digital revolution require the paradigm shift of the conventional concepts of architecture. Architects are ‘now able to look back and recognise the architectural potential and spatial structures of cyberspace’ (Spiller 2002, 151).

Author’s PhD research, Animating Architecture, explores new forms of architecture which are generated, developed and represented digital animation technologies. Originally, Labyrinth 00:06:05 is a digital architecture project which is represented in the form of animation. In this book, the author uses a form of science fiction novella to reconstruct the architectural spaces in the animation — the short story questions about the surreal aspects of virtual architecture.

The narrative of the film portrays a man who lives along a blurred boundary between the virtual and the actual, where advanced technology lies in the near future. The Protagonist is stuck in an infinitely looped virtual space. 00:06:05 is the length of the animation film as well as the duration which the protagonist’s space(s) exists.
