Abstract
Objective: To compare the tri-athietes aerobic power in cardiopulmonary exercise testing on bicycle ergometer and cyclo-simulator (more specific ergometer). Methods: 9 trained triathletes, 6 male and 3 female, perfomed two
cardiopulmonary exercise testing on different cycle ergometers, cyclo-simulator and bicycle ergometer, were measured the maximal oxygen uptake (VO2
max), the ventilatory threshold (VT), the maximal heart rate (HR max) and the ventilatory threshold heart rate (HR VT). Results: no differences were detected between the two tests. The values of cyclo-simulator and bicycle ergometer tests are, respectively - V02 max 62.88 ± 5.13 vs 62.13 ± 6.00 mi. kg-1.min-l, LV 37.84 ± 3.75 vs 38.96 ± 4.92 ml.kg-1.min-1, HR max 182.00 ± 8.72 vs 180.89 ± 11.16 beats.min-1 and HR VT 148.22 ± 6.22 vs 147.89 ± 8.54 beats.min-1.
Conclusion: the results suggest that the bicycle ergometer can be used for cardiopulmonary exercise testing of triathietes with the same precision as that of the cyclosimulator.
