Abstract

Barnaby Festival returns 17-26 June 2016 with 250 artists and performers, 100 events and 30 venues.

A Bi- annual festival that runs in Macclesfield-Cheshire. Barnaby brings together the arts, muisc and creative minds of the local community.

The 2016 theme is ‘Space’, in all its many interpretations, inspired by nearby Jodrell Bank Observatory (in its 70th anniversary year), Macc’s unique spaces and heritage venues and its place in the landscape.

Artist Simon Woolham exhibited filmed vignettes viewed in a ‘shed’ outside the Town Hall, they are re-enacted scenes based on a series of walks around Macclesfield. Woolham devised shared explorations of the past with people who grew up here, including Councillor Janet Jackson. The walks started out from the house where the person was born, still lives, or spent the majority of their childhood, guided towards different locations by their memories. Woolham encourages streams of consciousness and layers of ‘memory tapes’: a contemplative act around a community and its spaces.
