Abstract

This chapter discusses the biodegradation of textile and clothing products. Various important aspects related to biodegradation such as mechanism, types of microorganisms, factors influencing biodegradation, etc., have been discussed. Different methods and conditions to study biodegradation behavior have been presented, along with the techniques to assess the biodegradation of fibers and textiles. This chapter also discusses the influence of biodegradation on the structure and properties of various types of natural and synthetic fibers as well as their textile products and composites materials.
