Abstract

Traditional quotation systems in most industries are paper-based system, which is expensive and time consuming. An economical secure and reliable system is required with the highest performance. This research is to reach a solution to expedite this process and aims to make a positive difference to the mechanical and manufacturing industry. A web-based database system has been created for ordering and generating non-standard 2D designs for flexible couplings via a series of predefined options and variable dimensional information. Flexible couplings measure output torque, transmit power, compensate for end movement and also protect equipment from overload. Evolutionary Prototyping Lifecycle Model - EPLM, Database Management systems - DBMS, and Client-Sever systems - CSS are implemented in this investigation. It is found that the system eliminated the attention of the drawing office for all couplings. The system would assist some industrial sales and engineering teams worldwide, by providing customers with up to date information and subsequently offering them the highest quality of service. It concluded that a reduction in lead-time (the amount of time, defined by the supplier that is required to meet a customer request or demand [5]) and engineering designs costs have been achieved from this investigation.
