Abstract
Grant Campbell states that assessment leading to the award of degrees is the most significant task performed by universities. Logical argument leading to this statement starts with recognizing that fact where the teaching undertaken by universities is much more important than the research in terms of actual impact on the society. Academic professionals have an essential obligation to develop the skills and competencies required to undertake efficient assessments. Academic judgment similar to engineering judgment is the main component of academic assessment processes. A quick Google search reveals that academic judgment is protected against appeal at all UK universities, while the courts continuously decline to overrule in such matters, recognizing that it is beyond competence to do so and needs to be settled within the competence of universities.
