Abstract
A detailed overview of developments of form, types of occupation and aesthetic aspects from 1600 to the present, with exemplary analyzes and tasks for independent work.
In every good music lesson, you learn what the "sonata form" is, and who plays an instrument has certainly also dealt with it. There are countless individual investigations of the problem of form and sonatas in the course of music history. Nevertheless, there was no overview of the entire history of the genre from the beginnings of Giovanni Gabrieli to the latest developments in Boulez or Henze. The "Bärenreiter Studienbuch" to the Sonata fills this gap in a generally understandable way of presentation. Through the synopsis of the different periods, there are new perspectives on the development of form and its history, occupation and aesthetics, but also on individual composers such as Corelli, Beethoven or Schubert. The various phases of the development are illustrated by graphical overviews and exemplified by detailed individual analyzes of centralized plants. Forms such as church sonata, chamber sonata, suite and sonata form are also explained, so that the book can also serve as a basis for historical form analysis. Further questions and tasks for teaching or self-study complete the study book in a proven manner.
