Abstract

The Landau theory was used to estimate the stresses and strains associated with the domain walls of several materials. Results showed that in addition to the strains associated with the order parameter, secondary strains taking nonzero values across the domain wall will be present. Some components of the strain tensor will be unable to relax generating stresses within the domain walls.
