Abstract
The Equality Act 2010 is the legislation that currently provides employment protection for people described by nine protected characteristics. This policy brief is only considering those who are LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer). There is little evidence to suggest how well the Act works or how it is embedded into employment policy for LGBTQ employees. This paper will highlight the gaps in knowledge concerning LGBTQ people in Great Britain and what prevents them from achieving leadership positions in the National Health Service (NHS).
This research was carried out by Dr Richard Dunston Brady. Dr Dunston Brady. thesis* highlighted that LGBTQ people will shape their leadership delivery to fit in; for example, they adapted to be more authoritative, to be part of the in-group, or to remain strategically closeted.
*A critical evaluation of the pink plateau experienced by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) business leaders (2024) (https: https://pure.hud.ac.uk/ws/portalfiles/portal/90366866/37_Final_thesis.pdf).
