Abstract

Friction and pressure both have an effect on skin integrity; this chapter explores the scientific principles of pressure and friction and how they can contribute to the development of pressure ulcers. It goes on to investigate the effects they have in the role of pressure ulcers and also how understanding the basic scientific phenomenon can help reduce pressure ulcers through redistribution of pressure.
