Abstract

Significant research has recently been undertaken within the Requirements Engineering (RE) community towards understanding, integrating, and evaluating sustainability concerns in software systems. However, there still is no single point of reference for either RE researchers or practitioners where the work on sustainability is gathered and exemplified. It is the aim of this paper to become such a reference point. Here we review the current work on RE and Sustainability, and gather both the set of available approaches and demonstrative examples on how each of the RE activities - from feasibility study to requirements management - can be undertaken with explicit support for sustainability. This paper aims to serve as a starting point for RE researchers and practitioners who wish to start to positively contribute to sustainability of the socio-technical systems via RE research or practice.
