Abstract

Geometries of Flight is an audiovisual composition for a large screen installation to be placed in a loop in a darkened exhibition space that visitors can sit through any segment of the piece. The music was created by Monty Adkins using a number of small samples from Kenneth Kirschner's July 10, 2012 as part of a remix project celebrating the composer's work curated by TOKAFI to be released in 2013. The images are the result of visual compositing by Julio d'Escriván of publicly available youtube footage of flight and Polar exploration reflecting discussions with Adkins on the equivalent aesthetics of image that are a creative response to the audio. Geometries of flight tells fractions of a 'story' of flying and exploring and seeing unfamiliar territories in precisely arranged and cropped images that resemble geometrical figurations.
