Abstract
Inspired by artist JR’s ‘Inside Out’ project, The People’s Exhibition sought
to capture 50 portraits of members of the public in a single day in The Piazza
Shopping Centre and to create an exhibition with and of the community on
the high street. After the exhibition closed, the people photographed could
come and collect their portraits.
This project subverted expectations of what an art exhibition can be, with
members of the community being participants, exhibits and audiences on the
high street. The photographs themselves have become part of a generative
archive of communities as part of the global ‘Inside Out’ project.
This exhibition was part of Cultures of Place which took place between 24/06/2022 - 04/07/2022
