Abstract

The installation uses advanced spatial surveying tools to document the spaces of Huddersfield and develop narrative modes of engagement with those spaces. Clear and Park explore how Huddersfield’s ‘landmarks’ and ‘places’ can be represented using scanning technology to non-specialist audiences through immersive video projections and images. The project will involve the detail capture of the Queensgate Market through 3D laser scanning and 3D audio capture, the data from these scans will be manipulated and combined and then incorporated into the Unreal games engine to create the material for a Mixed Reality Exhibition.

The virtual model will be experienced through VR headsets and projected within the gallery space. Accompanying drawings will also be created, alongside analytic information explaining the scanning process and text outlining the theoretical and technical ambitions of the work.

Clear + Park will work in association with Dr. Hyunkook Lee who will capture the 3D audio-scape from -around the site(s) to actualise immersive sound experience using material sampled from the work of Iannis Xenakis who appeared on three occasions at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
