Abstract

The techniques and measurement of both in-plane and out-of-plane vibration of a twin calliper disc brake was discussed during noise generation. It was shown that the modes were extremely complex for the twin calliper brake. Interpolation of the recorded time series was found to provide both separate dynamic images of the in-plane and out-of-plane vibration, together with a combinded image indicating the absolute vibration mode characteristics of the disc. It was suggested that the full field amplitude and phase of both out-of-plane and in-plane displacement of the disc surface generating noise can be found using pulsed laser holography.
