Abstract

This entry discusses and narrates interventions and public health roles performed by community pharmacists. This is done by evidence synthesis of research articles, mostly done in high-income countries; however, some examples are also portrayed from low- and middle-income countries. It elaborates on the role of community pharmacies and electronic health records, pharmacists’ contribution to promoting vaccines, and the involvement of pharmacists in public health hazards. The contribution of pharmacists to chronic disease management, mental health, and promoting smoking cessation services is also being discussed. Most studies have shown the effectiveness of pharmacists’ role in the community setting, necessitating investing resources in low-resource setting.
