Abstract

This chapter examines the intricate connections between local content requirements (LCRs) and business and human rights concerns, particularly, how LCR implementation can produce social exclusions and complex human rights violations in global energy markets. Drawing examples from the Global South generally, and Nigeria in particular, it discusses the drivers of social exclusions in LCRs implementation as well as legal and institutional pathways for integrating business and human rights norms into the design and implementation of LCRs.
