Abstract
This is the second in a series of three papers which are attempting to highlight the changes which have taken place in the UK chemical industry's perception of the value and effectiveness of its in-house research and development activity between the mid 1950s and the early 1980s. In the first paper, the methodology associated with the study was discussed and the period to the mid 1960s was surveyed. In this second paper, the relatively few, but exceedingly important, years between the late 1960s and the early 1970s are highlighted.
