Abstract

The paper presents a progression of railway-related projects undertaken by the author and co-workers over the last three decades. The objectives are twofold: firstly to illustrate the increasing technological ambitions with respect to applying mechatronic ideas to the suspension systems of railway vehicles and secondly to propose a categorisation of the different concepts in terms of their compliance with the principles of mechatronics.
