Abstract

This entry elaborates on different debates about feminisms and men: firstly, on men's various relations to feminism, such as support for, ambivalence, or antagonism to feminism; secondly, on the place of men within feminisms and feminist movements; and, thirdly, on how feminisms and feminist politics and writing construct men and address men, if at all. It draws on histories of men's involvement with feminism, shifts in the relation of men in (pro)feminism as well as questions and pitfalls in political and academic debates. It promotes an understanding of feminism as opposing masculine domination and sexism, which can be incorporated by all genders. Finally, it discusses ongoing and possible future debates concerning intersectionality, local and global differences and entanglements, and the pluralization or abolition of genders.
