Abstract

This paper presents an assessment of a railway wheelset in control engineering terms. It addresses a linearised dynamic model and some simulation results for straight and curved track, gives an interpretation of the fundamental stability problem based upon control system stability analysis, and suggests theoretical possibilities for active control laws which might be investigated from a practical point of view.
