Abstract

The determination of the optimal cutting conditions for machine tools is a familiar problem in the engineering management literature. Two relatively recent papers have pointed out that the cost parameters included in models used to suggest cutting speeds and tool life have traditionally been mis-specified. In this paper we develop a generalized model of the situation, from which the approaches taken in the two previous papers and an earlier work are shown to emerge as special cases
