Abstract
This paper assesses the use of optimal control for the suspension of an advanced high speed rail vehicle. The flexibility of the vehicle body is included, and strategies using both two and three actuators are investigated. The controller design minimises the combination of vehicle body accelerations, deflections across the secondary suspension, and the actuator force levels.
