Abstract

This paper presented a tolerance design method based on the quality loss function with multi-correlated characteristics. The discussions focused on the derivation of functional relationship between the quality loss of products with multi-correlated characteristics and dimension tolerances, and a comprehensive model for optimal tolerance design was established based on manufacturing cost-quality loss. The purpose of the model was to balance manufacturing cost and quality loss so that optimal tolerance design is achieved and quality improvement and product cost reduction is realized. An example involving optimal tolerance design for products with correlated characteristics was presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
