Abstract

‘Our Voices’ is an animation that was created with 16 children aged 9-11 during the 2020-2021 global pandemic in direct response to the critique that children have been seen but little heard during the pandemic. As part of our research project Corona Chronicles - Children researching their everyday lives, education and relationships during the coronavirus pandemic (Lomax et al, 2020) with children, parents and teachers from four primary schools in the north of England, we aimed to enable children from diverse socio-cultural contexts to express their experiences of living in a pandemic and the impacts of government policies on their lives during this time. Through ‘Our Voices’ the Corona Chronicles animation, we make available a unique resource for childhood researchers, practitioners and policy-makers to see and hear directly from children which foregrounds children’s expertise while ensuring our ethical responsibilities to mitigate potential harms that may emerge now or in the future.
