Abstract
The role of energy-efficient heating solutions is crucial in achieving net zero targets. However, there are challenges found in retrofitting older UK properties. This paper explores the challenges associated with retrofitting older buildings and
presents effective strategies to overcome these challenges. Technological integration through novel materials such as soapstone as an energy-efficient solution is adopted. Experiments were conducted on two soapstone samples to elucidate their compatibility as a heat-absorbing layer in the retrofitted houses. The results provide concluding remarks on adopting soapstone as an effective and alternative energy efficient solution that can be adopted in older property retrofit. Further empirical research is needed to validate the findings and to better understand how heating technology using soapstone can provide solutions to energy efficiency in older UK properties.
