Abstract

This co-creation project is working in partnership with Middlesbrough Council, Middlesbrough Cultural Partnership, Transpennine Express, Network Rail and Navigator North to produce a public, sonic artwork to be installed in Middlesbrough train station which engages with the numinous musical heritage of Middlesbrough (and the North East) and its beginnings as a Benedictine Monastic Cell. It does so by working with regional community groups (Ampleforth Abbey, Musinc, Open Orchestra, Tees Valley Music Service) and musicians using traditional, contemporary and alternative techniques in choral practice and communicating musical ideas to a framework that ensures captured material can work harmoniously in a final artwork.
