Abstract

The intense activity directed towards the synthesis of novel 5-substituted photochromic 2H-naphthol[1,2-b]pyrans has led to a variety of substituted naphthopyrans, pyrans fused to carbocyclic rings, indenopyrans and some heterobenzopyrans. This article discusses earlier findings on the synthesis and photochromic properties of some heterobenzopyrans.
