Abstract

The synthesis and photochromic properties of several novel thienobenzopyrans are presented. The presence of thiophene ring was found to bring about a red shift of λ_max. The mode of ring fusion of the thiophene ring has a profound effect on the rate of fade of the photogenerated species.
